Homelessness is complicated, and the circumstances that lead someone to experience homelessness are different for everyone. Good policy starts by listening to people with firsthand experience and those working directly with them. Effective solutions connect people with housing, mental health care, substance-use treatment and other services that can help them move toward stability.

The City can't solve homelessness on its own. Working with the County, local service providers and nonprofit organizations is essential, both to make the best use of available resources and to help people move into stable housing.

Public spaces should be safe, clean and accessible for everyone who uses them. Brett believes the City can address the impacts of homelessness responsibly while treating people experiencing homelessness with dignity and compassion.
