Local businesses give San Luis Obispo much of its character. A healthy local economy also provides jobs, supports city services and helps keep our downtown and commercial areas active and welcoming.

Running a business in SLO can be challenging. City decisions about fees, parking, permits, construction and regulations can have a real effect on businesses, their employees and their customers. The people dealing with those decisions every day should have a voice in them.

Downtown is especially important to the city's economic health, but our neighborhood businesses and other commercial areas matter too. City policies should help existing businesses stay and succeed while making SLO a welcoming place for new businesses.

Brett believes City Hall should listen to the people who run local businesses and consider the practical effects of its decisions before acting.
