Students are SLO residents too and should feel welcome here. As Cal Poly grows, the City and university need to work together to address the effects that growth has throughout San Luis Obispo, including housing, traffic, parking, public safety and neighborhood livability.

Those impacts are felt across the community, and particularly in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. Whether people rent or own their homes, they deserve to have their concerns taken seriously and should not be left trying to solve these problems on their own.

Brett wants the City and Cal Poly to communicate openly, listen to students and residents, and take responsibility for the problems each can help solve. A strong town-gown partnership should work for the entire community, without overlooking the people who live with the effects of those decisions every day.​
